Report #130 02/01/17

I can't help but wonder if the Putin government has clamped down on this web site. As I have normally done in the past, I check the site frequently. I note that the articles have not changed for quite some time.

The NASWA Winter SWL Fest is scheduled for March 2-4, 2017. This is an extended Fest, it being the 30th running of this event. I regret I am not able to attend this year. My medical recovery has not been as quick nor as complete as I would like. Hopefully I will be able to attend the 2018 Fest.

"Combined Fleet Decoded" by John Prados. Sub-titled "The Secret History of American Intelligence and the Japanese Navy in World War II." Published in 1995 it is a comprehensive description of events in the Pacific naval war during WWII. I found this book to be every bit as interesting on this read a it was on a couple previous reads. The book jacket lists several pertinent subject details including "How the U.S. caught the Japanese super battleship Yamato"; The story of the Japanese admiral who almost discovered that Americans had broken the Japanese naval codes"; "What American intelligence learned before the war from Japanese naval activity in China." Extensive notes plus bibliography and detailed index round out this well written historical volume.
