Report #064 03/12/08
WINTER SWL FESTIVAL
Another great SWL Fest was held 7-8 March in Kulpsville, PA. It is always fun to be able to swap war stories, lies, and radio subjects with friends. There were many interesting Forum Activities. I enjoyed the Scanner Scum review of Scanner equipment, the review of Pirate transmissions given by George Zeller, and Risto Vahakainu's informative updating of the Status of the Hobby in Europe. Shan Hassan of Eton Corporation presented a rundown on Eton/Grundig products which indicated how equipment refinements continue to advance. Of extreme interest to me was the talk given by Tim Lemmon about Linux and its uses for the SWL. Freebee Linux disks were handed out and I believe this operating system is going to eliminate problems I had been having using some SWL programs and other older programs with Vista. As always there were great prizes which this year were contributed by Eton Corporation, Universal Radio, Grove Enterprises, DX Engineering, CIDX, Popular Communications, Com One, American Radio Relay League, C. Crane Company, and Radios 4 You.
A Monitoring Times magazine representative was not present this year but Edith Lennon of Popular Communications magazine was in attendance.
Dates for next year have been selected for the 22nd Annual Winter SWL Fest and it will be held March 13-14 March 2009. See you there.
