Report #045 11/01/04

AGENTURA
WOW! What a difference now on the Russian web site http://www.agentura.ru/english/. It has had a complete face lift and is vastly improved. Numerous articles are in English and those translated from the Russian language are properly translated and were very readable. A pleasant change from the previously corrupt and clumsy translated Russian to English versions.

Capsule summaries are given for the various articles and additional details are available by clicking on the corresponding button. In material I downloaded on 1 November there were some rather revealing items. One was titled "FSB Reform: Changes are Few and Far between". Another was "FSB system of Political Surveillance". Others included "Russian security services must get their act together", "Nationalists and liberals opposed to Putin regime" and "Putin to reanimate KGB?". It was noteworthy that such articles, critical of the Russian Government and some Russian Officials were included in the published material.

Also available on the site were three very informative reports on the SVR, FSB, and FAPSI. These reports were written in 2001 by an employee of the UK Ministry of Defense. While a bit dated, the reports never-the-less offer excellent comprehensive background details regarding the three organizations.
